Le Maschere Galanti continues its commitment to reviving neglected Baroque masterpieces by bringing to life a Christmas cantata by composer Carlo Francesco Cesarini, not performed since its premiere in the Vatican on Christmas Day in 1696. The cantata takes the form of a heated dialogue between four characters, Divine Love, Innocence, Peace, and Lucifer.

Though little known today, Carlo Francesco Cesarini was among the most highly regarded composers of his day and was renowned particularly for his expressive cantatas.
